Ladies generally suffer more from acnes than men do, consequence of the subjectivity of their systems to the secretion of hormones. Naturally, most people move on from the skin inflammatory condition as they age into their twenties, but a lady who still has it well into her thirties is not considered too strange. That is why when they still have it even after menopause, some people might look at them strangely while others will still consider it natural. You might not have been aware of this previously, but acne has sometimes been associated to menopause. This is a time that a lot of hormones are active in the womans body to supplement the cessation of the primary estrogen that secreted when her cycle was still in place. The acne preventing ovarian hormone known as estradiol should be replaced by something else, and when it is not, viola! Here come your acnes. Heres something you don’t get to hear every day: acne has been around since the time of the Ancient Roman Empire! Surprised? Heres another: it goes further back to the time of the Pharaohs. Records that suggest as a matter of fact that there were Pharaohs who themselves suffered from the condition and ordered their subject to find cures or face death. Boy, am I glad I didn’t live in those days! Whatever cures they thought that they might have found back then certainly couldnt have been a lasting one, because here we are right now still struggling with the same. Way back in history, it has been recorded that people attempted to treat acne with mineral water laced in sulfur, and heated. They must have been on to something at the time, because even today, sulfur is known to have some kind of effect on the condition, though not a lasting cure. Building on this knowledge, we, in our day and age have done a lot better than that, but we are still yet to find an acne cure that works well for everyone.
