Golfer Darren Clarke may have missed out on a Ryder Cup place, but he’s kept busy by adding the final specifications to his fivebedroom villa that is about to be constructed alongside one of Portugal’s best golf courses at Vilamoura, in the Algarve.

‘I have fairly simple design tastes,’ says Darren, who lost his wife Heather to breast cancer in 2006 and has two sons, Tyrone, ten, and Conor, seven.

Darren, right, paid ?2million for the Moorish-style villa. He says: ‘There’ll be a home cinema and a great sound and games system that the boys will enjoy.’
